In 2016, the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad is celebrating its centenary and 100 years of working on behalf of the Swiss Abroad. The anniversary year takes the title of 'Switzerland – part of the world'.

During the anniversary celebrations being held on the Bundesplatz in Berne, video greetings messages from Swiss people living in different parts of the world will be played. The best videos in each of the different categories will be awarded a prize by our partner companies.

An overview of the 100th anniversary of the OSA in 2016:

– Official launch of the centenary of the OSA, 2 March 2016

– 25 years of the Area for the Swiss Abroad, 15–17 April 2016

– Trek by young people in Switzerland, 24 July–4 August 2016

– 94th Congress of the Swiss Abroad in Berne, 5–7 August 2016

The Swiss Post Office is joining in the OSA's centenary celebrations by issuing a special stamp. After a competition organised by the Swiss Post Office, it is Tom Künzli who was given the tricky task of representing the diversity of the Swiss Abroad on a few square centimetres.

The Area for the Swiss Abroad is commemorating its 25th anniversary. To mark this occasion, three days of celebrations are planned. A ceremony, which will be attended by the President of the Swiss Confederation Johann Schneider-Ammann, will officially open a permanent poster exhibition at the site.

Over a two-week period, 100 young Swiss Abroad – divided into four groups – will set off from the four corners of our nation to discover Switzerland. They will report on their adventures on the Swissinfo website and in the SSR-SRG media outlets.

During the public centenary celebrations on the Bundesplatz on 5 August, speeches will be held by Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter and others. There will be musical performances by Swiss Army Band, Swiss Jazz Orchestra, Anna Rossinelli and band, and William White.
