If you want to come to Switzerland to do some education or training or further education or even find a permanent job, you must first know exactly how well your educational qualifications are recognised in Switzerland. It is not always the case that an education or training undertaken abroad is readily accepted in Switzerland. It is therefore worth clarifying beforehand exactly what is recognised and what additional work or examinations are necessary to undertake some education or training or further education or to find a job in Switzerland. There is no central office responsible for answering general questions relating to admissions and recognition questions. There are, however, various contact organisations who are responsible, according to educational background and profession.
Matura/A-Levels/High School Graduation or Equivalent
The universities and federal institutes of technology are themselves responsible for the recognition of foreign school leaving qualifications in respect of admissions. They have autonomy in admissions decisions. Basic and superior vocational education and training
The Federal Department of Professional Education and Training and Technology (OPET) has decisional power on establishing equivalence between foreign vocational education and training diplomas, for example a basic federal certificate, advanced federal certificate, professional baccalaureate or higher vocational education and training diploma.
