Swiss Participation Worldwide

Germany and France, as well as Italy, have a dense network of schools abroad. The number of Austrian schools is more modest and they are concentrated essentially in Eastern Europe.

Where no Swiss schools are available, Swiss parents are often happy to enrol their children in one of these establishments. With the support stipulated in Art. 10 of the education act for Swiss citizens abroad, Switzerland can show its recognition of, and solidarity with, these countries by providing partial financing for a schoolteacher. The presence of Swiss teaching staff at these international schools contributes a Swiss element to life in the school.

For financial support to be provided by Switzerland, an initiative must be taken by a local Swiss community which must also show an appropriate commitment of its own.
