100 years of the OSA and Switzerland – part of the world

100 years of the OSA and Switzerland in the worldIn 2016, the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad (OSA) celebrated its centenary and 100 years of working on behalf of the Swiss Abroad. Taking the title of 'Switzerland – part of the world', the anniversary year has of course looked back at the OSA's history but with the aim of focusing on the current and future needs of our fellow citizens worldwide. With events, books and a poster exhibition, this anniversary year emphasised reflection, but in a celebratory spirit.

In 2016, almost 762,000 Swiss citizens lived all over the world and it is important that their interests are protected in the best way possible, which is the OSA's raison d’être. It is important to convey why Switzerland needs its expatriates and what exactly they contribute to our nation in view of the fact that the international mobility of our fellow citizens is continually increasing.

The Swiss Abroad were honoured throughout the anniversary year and the diversity of emigration and its contribution to Switzerland was highlighted.

To showcase the diversity of the Swiss Abroad, we have invited them to send us video greetings messages. Here's the result.

Two major events are planned during the anniversary year: from 15 to 17 April in Brunnen and from 5 to 7 August in Berne where the centenary Congress will be held. We invite all Swiss people – regardless of where they live – to take part in these events.
