20.06.19 No E-voting system from Geneva for the federal elections

The State Council of the canton of Geneva announced yesterday that its electronic voting system CHVote will not be available for the next federal elections.

In November 2018, the canton of Geneva informed about the shutdown of CHVote, for financial reasons, planned for 2020. The Federal Council will give its authorisation to use E-voting in mid-August, only nine weeks before the elections – a deadline considered too short for the Geneva authorities, who prefer to stop operating their current e-voting system as of today.

Swiss Abroad originating from the cantons of Aargau, Bern Geneva, and Lucerne will thus be deprived of electronic voting for the 2019 federal elections.
